Frequently Asked Questions
Can I record and sell albums with your songs?
Yes. You may record and distribute your own versions commercially (sell albums, stream on Spotify, etc.). We only ask that you provide proper attribution as outlined above.
Can I use these songs on YouTube or live-stream worship?
Yes. You can freely use our songs in videos, live-streams, podcasts, or any online content. Attribution in the video description is appreciated.
Do I need a CCLI license to use your music?
No. Our music is released under a Creative Commons license and does not require CCLI, OneLicense, or similar licensing services. However, if your church has a blanket license and wants to report usage for accountability, you're welcome to do so.
Can I translate the songs into another language?
Yes. You may translate and adapt our songs into any language. We encourage you to share your translations with us so we can make them available to others.
Can I change the lyrics or arrangement?
Yes. You may adapt the music, change keys, modify arrangements, or create derivative works. We ask that adaptations remain faithful to biblical truth and the spirit of the original song.
Can I use your music in a for-profit worship event?
Yes. You may use our songs in both non-profit and for-profit contexts. Whether you're leading worship at a conference, retreat, or paid event, you're free to use our music.
Can I include your songs in a hymnal or songbook?
Yes. You may include our songs in printed or digital hymnals, songbooks, or worship resources. Please provide attribution and, if possible, a link to nocrownworship.com so others can find the original resources.
What if I want to make significant changes to a song?
You're free to create derivative works under the CC BY 4.0 license. However, if the changes significantly alter the theological message or meaning, we ask that you indicate it as "based on" or "adapted from" the original, rather than presenting it as the original work.
What About Copyright?
All songs remain copyrighted by No Crown Worship, but the Creative Commons license grants you broad permissions to use, share, and adapt them without needing individual permission or paying royalties.
This is not "public domain" (which means no copyright at all), but rather a copyright with open permissions. The copyright protects the integrity of the work while the license ensures it remains accessible to everyone.
The Heart Behind Our License
Freely you have received; freely give.
(Matthew 10:8)
We believe worship should never be hindered by paywalls, licensing fees, or legal complexity. By releasing our music under a Creative Commons license, we're following the biblical principle of generosity and stewardship.
Everything we've received — our gifts, our calling, our resources — has been freely given by God. So we give it away freely, trusting that the Holy Spirit will use these songs wherever they're needed.
Our prayer is that these songs would be sung in cathedrals and house churches, recorded by professionals and amateurs, translated into languages we've never heard, and adapted for contexts we've never imagined. May they serve the Body of Christ and glorify God alone.
